About

Mihovil Bosnar was an assistant at the Ruđer Bošković Institute’s Division of Theoretical Physics from 2017 to 2021, where he conducted his doctoral research in condensed matter physics under the supervision of Ivor Lončarić. He defended his dissertation, Electronic Properties of van der Waals Heterostructures from First Principles, in 2021. He applied density-functional calculations to two-dimensional crystal bilayers, PtSe2 on platinum surfaces, and electrically controllable magnetization in graphene.

His work led to publications including Proximity-induced magnetization in graphene: towards efficient spin gating and research on selenium intercalation at PtSe2/Pt interfaces. Alongside his research, he helped teach introductory and advanced physics laboratory courses at the Faculty of Science, presented his work at eight scientific meetings, and completed a research visit to Forschungszentrum Jülich in November 2019.

Mihovil was a research assistant in the Modelling and Theory of Materials Group from 2017 to 2021.
